Knock, Knock…….Who’s There Campaign
A campaign to raise awareness of doorstep crime and bogus callers with year 6 primary school children.
Bogus callers may be men, women or even children. While they tend to target older people as victims, anyone can become a victim of a bogus caller.
They use many varied tricks to get into people’s homes to steal money or valuables, but the most common tricks used are:
- Claiming to be from the “waterboard”
- Asking for help, such as using the toilet or telephone
- Claiming to have lost a ball in the garden
- Offering to do work on the house, such as gardening or building work
- Claiming to be from a charity
- Claiming to be from the council
- Claiming to be from the police
They will often commit their crimes by working in two’s or small groups, with one offender distracting the victim, while the other/s search the house for valuables. Thousands of pounds every year is taken by bogus callers, and the victims are often really upset by the experience.
This website has been developed to provide resources for children, parents and teachers to learn about doorstep safety together. The lesson plan and activities were originally designed for use with year 6 primary school children.
